NCAM was established by degree No. 35 of 1990 now an Act of the National Assembly which accorded her a Class ‘B’ parastatal status within the ambit of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Centre was established with the overall objective of accelerating the pace of mechanization in the agricultural sector of the Nigerian economy in order to increase the quantity and quality of agricultural products through adaptive and innovative research; extension and commercialization of proven technologies; organizations of training workshops and seminars; and networking and collaboration with similar institutions within and outside the country. 

NCAM located in Ilorin, Kwara State to strategically actualize this mandate and has performed creditably well over the years in providing agricultural  solutions to the country. Furthermore, NCAM  is the only agricultural Mechanization Centre of its kind in the Sub -Saharan African, the only other Centre in Africa being located in Egypt.
