The Member representing Edu/Pategi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sabah Mohammed, has called for stronger legal backing for the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Ilorin, to enable the Centre effectively discharge its regulatory mandate in the nation’s agricultural mechanization sector.
Rt. Hon. Sabah Mohammed made the call during a courtesy visit to NCAM on Friday, 18th September, 2026, where he was received by the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, Hon. Engr. Julius Oluwamuyiwa Oloro, alongside the Director of Engineering and former Acting Executive Director, Engr. Dr. Ademiluyi Yinka Segun, and other management staff of the Centre.
Speaking during the visit, the lawmaker expressed confidence in NCAM’s technical expertise and strategic role in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector through mechanization. He noted that the Centre possesses the capacity and professional competence required to drive the nation’s quest for food security and agricultural modernization.
Rt. Hon. Sabah Mohammed, however, emphasized the urgent need for the Federal Government to fully empower NCAM through appropriate legal provisions to implement its regulatory responsibilities, particularly in the testing, certification, and standardization of agricultural machinery and equipment imported into the country.
According to him, failure to strengthen NCAM’s regulatory authority could continue to expose Nigerian farmers to the dangers of substandard agricultural technologies and machinery, thereby undermining productivity and investments in the sector.
The lawmaker recounted his personal experience with the purchase of a substandard tractor in Nigeria, stressing that stronger regulatory oversight by NCAM would help safeguard farmers and investors from similar experiences while ensuring that only quality agricultural equipment enters the Nigerian market.
He further commended the Centre for its numerous achievements over the years and lauded the leadership of the newly appointed Executive Director, Hon. Engr. Julius Oloro. He congratulated the Executive Director on his appointment and expressed confidence that his vast experience and leadership capacity would reposition the Centre for greater efficiency, innovation, and national impact.
In his remarks, the Executive Director appreciated the lawmaker for the visit and for his continued interest in the advancement of agricultural mechanization in Nigeria. He reiterated NCAM’s commitment to supporting government policies aimed at enhancing food production, improving farmers’ productivity, and promoting sustainable agricultural development across the country.
The visit provided an opportunity for discussions on strategic interventions and legislative support required to strengthen agricultural mechanization and accelerate the attainment of national food security objectives in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
