Research and Development (R&D) Services

Driving Innovation in Agricultural Mechanization

The National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) is at the forefront of agricultural research and technological advancement, dedicated to developing innovative mechanization solutions tailored to Nigeria’s farming needs. Our Research and Development (R&D) unit focuses on designing, testing, and improving farm machinery and mechanized systems to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and efficiency.

Our Key Research Areas

Development of Locally Adapted Agricultural Machinery

We design and develop farm equipment suited to Nigeria’s diverse agro-ecological zones, ensuring affordability, efficiency, and ease of use for smallholder and large-scale farmers.

Farm Mechanization Systems and Automation

Our R&D team explores modern automation techniques, including precision agriculture, IoT-based mechanization, and smart farming technologies, to improve productivity and resource management.

Renewable Energy for Agricultural Mechanization

We research and integrate solar-powered and other renewable energy solutions into farm mechanization, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective alternatives for rural farming communities.

Post-Harvest and Agro-Processing Technologies

To reduce food loss and improve value addition, we develop and refine post-harvest processing equipment, including threshers, dryers, and milling machines

Testing and Performance Evaluation of Farm Equipment

We conduct field trials and laboratory testing to assess the efficiency, durability, and adaptability of agricultural machinery, ensuring they meet required standards.

Soil and Water Conservation Mechanization

Our research focuses on mechanized solutions for irrigation, land preparation, and soil conservation, promoting sustainable land use practices.
