The National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), in collaboration with TANTA Motors, Egypt, has successfully developed Nigeria’s first heavy-duty heap-making machine for yam and cassava cultivation. The innovative prototype, currently undergoing field testing, is designed to mechanize the heap-making process, reducing the drudgery associated with manual land preparation while improving efficiency, productivity, and timeliness of farming operations. This milestone underscores NCAM’s commitment to developing and adapting homegrown agricultural mechanization technologies that address the needs of Nigerian farmers and support the nation’s drive towards enhanced food security and sustainable agricultural development. The Centre remains dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and strategic partnerships that promote modern agricultural practices and accelerate mechanization across Nigeria.
